Huge changes at Disney – Bob Iger returns as CEO immediately
Replacing…his replacement
Almost three years after his departure from Disney , the former CEO of the company, Bob Iger , is returning. Specifically, Iger will replace … his replacement, Bob Chapek, with the change effective immediately.
Iger’s sudden return will not last long, however, as the high-ranking executive will take over the company’s management for two years, until he is called upon to choose a new successor for his role. For the record Chapek was also Iger’s choice, but unfortunately the transition was not as smooth as he would have hoped.
From the very first months of Chapek’s new Disney, the company was faced with serious problems, such as the public rift with Scarlett Johansson over the simultaneous premiere of Black Widow on Disney+. A little later there was no lack of political problems in America, while there were also internal issues, such as the unexpected dismissal of the high-ranking executive Peter Rice.
Speaking about the change, Disney chairman Susan Arnold said:
We thank Bob Chapek for his service to Disney during his long career, including guiding the company through the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic. The Board concluded that, as Disney enters an increasingly complex period of industry transformation, Bob Iger is uniquely positioned to lead the company through this critical period.
For the record, Bob Iger held the role from 2005 until 2020, managing to develop Disney into the giant it is today. Among others, under his guidance, the company acquired Pixar in 2005, Lucasfilm and the Star Wars IP, and most recently 20th Century Fox. Of course, Iger was also responsible for the acquisition of Marvel and the building of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which was to change the movie industry.
