Microsoft chief: “We will intensify our efforts in gaming”

Satya Nadella comments on the future after the huge deal

A few weeks ago, Microsoft completed its massive acquisition of Activision Blizzard , after a long battle with regulators that lasted several months. Now, for the first time after the completion of the deal, the CEO of the American giant, Satya Nadella, made his first relevant comment.

In particular, the head of Microsoft gave a full interview to the German publishing house Axel Springer, where he was asked why the acquisition of Activision Blizzard was so important.

Nadella emphasizes that gaming is practically one of the only areas that Microsoft can contribute to the general consumer public, since the rest of its products and services focus mainly on business and productivity. In fact, the high-ranking executive pointed out that the company now intends to double its efforts in gaming, but without clarifying whether this will happen thanks to Activision or if there is an intention for further investments.

The relevant excerpt of the interview follows below:

Now that the Activision Blizzard acquisition has finally been approved. Why is it so important? 65 billion is a very big price.
She is, but we’re really excited for her. There are a few things that have long defined us as a company. Gaming is one of them, right? When I think of Microsoft, I probably think of development tools, proprietary software, and games. Those are three things we’ve been doing since the beginning. And so, for us, gaming is the only place where we think we have a real contribution to consumer markets.
Looking at it, the amount of time people spend gaming is increasing and Gen Z will be even more engaged. The way games are made, the way games are delivered, is changing radically. Be it smartphones, consoles, PCs, or even the cloud. So we look forward to stepping up our gaming efforts, both as a game developer and publisher. Now we will be one of the largest game publishers and also a company that creates platforms for games.
