U-Scan is a gadget that makes your toilet smart and analyzes your urine!
Sending the results to your mobile
The French company Withings, which specializes in health technology products, having released everything from activity trackers to smart scales, revealed a very special gadget in the context of the CES 2023 exhibition . Meet the U-Scan , a device that aspires to make every toilet smart, offering instant urine analysis through a special application for smartphones.
Going into detail, the U-Scan is a device that hangs on the side of the toilet bowl, like the various perfumes/cleaners available on the market. In particular, having a diameter of 90 millimeters and a shape reminiscent of a pebble, the U-Scan is intended for placement at the front of the pelvis, that is, where the urine of most users of the toilet reaches. The device has a special input at its lowest point, which is activated when a sensor detects the presence of urine. In particular, there is a built-in pump to draw the amount of urine necessary to start the chemical analysis.
Various cassettes can be inserted into the U-Scan, depending on the test the user wants to perform. Withings works with two medical centers in Europe, having prepared the U-Scan Cycle Sync and the U-Scan Nutri Balance. The first aspires to provide detailed information to women about their menstrual cycle, such as ovulation window and hydration levels. Nutri Balance, on the other hand, will provide information on hydration and nutrition. For example, it will detect nutrient levels, fat metabolism and the amounts of vitamin C found in the user’s urine. At the same time, there will be details on ketone levels, as well as urine pH, so the user can determine how healthy their diet really is.
Each cartridge can be used for up to three months, with the device even supporting multiple users, being smart enough to distinguish who is who. All results will be viewed via a smartphone app, with the U-Scan connecting either directly to the mobile via Bluetooth or to the internet via Wi-Fi. As for charging, it will be done through a covered USB-C port, with the battery life corresponding to three months.
The U-Scan is expected to be released in the second quarter of 2023 and will cost €499.95. The starter kit will include the device and a cassette, while each spare part will cost around €30.
