New Lord of the Rings movies are coming from Warner Bros!

Signatures dropped

Yes, you read that right. It’s official. Warner Bros. and New Line will return to Middle-earth with all-new The Lord of the Rings films . At the moment we do not know if these are going to be sequels that will continue the events after Peter Jackson ‘s epic trilogy or prequels, however there is talk not of a movie, but of multiple new projects.

Going into details, Warner Bros has just signed a multi-year contract with Embracer Group AB, the company that has had the rights to the creations of the legendary JRR Tolkien for a few months now. This new deal, therefore, allows Warner to create multiple films based on the Lord of the Rings books and The Hobbit.

The move was announced Thursday during a Warner Bros. conference call. Discovery for its investors. In practice, CEO David Zaslav wants the company to return to the golden days of the previous decades when it had not one, but many ” hens with the golden eggs “, since Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter films filled its theaters for years.

At this point it’s worth noting that Warner Bros. film venture bosses Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy have given a clear message that they’re not interested in simply repeating what Peter Jackson has already done , stating:

Twenty years ago, New Line took an unprecedented leap of faith to bring the incredible stories, characters and world of The Lord of the Rings to life on the big screen. The result was a series of landmark films embraced by generations of fans. But for all the length and detail lovingly put into the two trilogies, the vast, complex and dazzling universe dreamed up by JRR Tolkien remains largely unexplored on film. The opportunity to invite fans deeper into the cinematic world of Middle-earth is a great honor and we are thrilled to be working with Middle-earth Enterprises and Embracer on this adventure.

Historically, the rights to Tolkien’s works have always been a bit of a confusing affair, and it still is. At the moment, Amazon is also entering the equation, which has the rights to create the TV series of the same name that tells the events of the second age of the universe. We still don’t know exactly what the new Warner contract provides, but it is possible to see well-known characters such as Gandalf, Bilbo and Aragorn again.
