PS5 Pro in 2023? What did a Sony executive answer!
Speculation is rife
The PlayStation 4 had made its debut in the European market on November 29, 2013. Three years later, on November 10, 2016, an upgraded version of the console, the PlayStation 4 Pro, was made available worldwide, capable of running games at higher resolutions and with better graphics. Now, as we have entered the third year of the PlayStation 5 , many are wondering if history will repeat itself, i.e. if there is a chance to see a corresponding mid-generation upgrade , i.e. a PS5 Pro .
A journalist from the well-known Japanese media Famitsu also had this exact question. Specifically, in an interview with Hideaki Nishino, PlayStation’s ‘SVP of Platform Experience’, the medium asked the high-ranking executive what their future plans are for the hardware, reminding him of the timing of the PS4 Pro release. The relevant excerpt of the interview follows below.

What Sony answered about the possibility of seeing the PS5 Pro in 2023:
Now the PS5 has entered its third year. The PS4 Pro was similarly released three years later, so I’d like to hear what your future outlook is.
Nishino: By the end of fiscal year 2022, total sales will have exceeded 37 million. We believe it will be a very important period for the platform. I can’t talk about details right now, but I hope you’re looking forward to 2023!
Surprisingly, the senior executive’s response was not entirely negative. On the contrary, while he decided to speak cryptically, he also seems to imply that Sony is indeed planning something in terms of hardware in 2023. Whether this will be the PS5 Pro, the rumored PS5 with a removable disk drive, a PS5 Slim or something completely different, it remains to be seen.
