Star Wars: “Rogue Squadron” has been pulled from Disney’s release schedule

Standard procedure or does it mean it was cancelled?

The future of Star Wars remains highly televised at least in the medium term, and that’s because Rogue Squadron has been unceremoniously removed from Disney’s release schedule.

The revelation was made by Variety who published the release schedule of Disney films until 2024 and it was missing the Star Wars film directed by Patty Jenkins that was announced two years ago. It has since received several delays with its fate unknown, but both Jenkins and Lucasfilm have assured that the project still exists.

Rogue Squadron was scheduled to be released on December 22, 2023, but as Variety points out, it was an expected move to remove it from its calendar, as there apparently wasn’t enough time to get it on schedule.

It was also expected to be the first Star Wars film since 2019’s  The Rise of Skywalker .

Although the fate of Rogue Squadron is now officially unknown, Lucasfilm and Disney are working on other Star Wars movies in the works. One Star Wars film will be directed by Taika Waititi (Thor: Love & Thunder), another by Rian Johnson of Star Wars: The Last Jedi , and a third produced by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige . It is still not clear which of them will be released first, but there are still two slots for Lucasfilms projects on the calendar for December 29, 2025 and December 17, 2027 .

All this clearly does not mean that Star Wars: Rogue Squadron has been canceled for good, but maybe later Lucasfilm will set a new date for the project.
