Historic change: New name for Microsoft Office

The biggest in 30 years

A very big branding change was announced by Microsoft , after it decided to change the name of Microsoft Office , which is one of its most popular products together with Windows.

Going into details, after at least 30 years , Microsoft is renaming its popular suite of programs. So, Microsoft Office is changing its name to Microsoft 365 . It should be emphasized that the individual applications will not be affected and thus Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. will keep their normal names . The only change is that now these programs will belong to Microsoft 365 and not Microsoft Office.

At this point it is worth mentioning that Microsoft has long been preparing the ground, for example changing the name of Office 365 subscriptions to Microsoft 365, about two years ago. However, this time the “wave” is clearly bigger. Through its official website, Microsoft explains that in the coming months the Office mobile application, Office.com and the Office application for Windows will all change name, icon and appearance. In fact, the company hinted that it has several new features in the works.

In terms of timing, the first logo and design changes will appear on Office.com in November, followed by a refresh of the Office app for Windows, iOS and Android in January.

Finally, it should be noted that even though Microsoft Office is now in the closet of history, Microsoft will continue for some time to sell permanent licenses and not just subscriptions, through the Office 2021 package that is already on the market.

The new Microsoft 365 app for Windows:

The all-new Microsoft 365 will be home to Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Loop, Clipchamp, Stream, Designer apps. The new central app that will tie it all together will include files and contacts, being a hub for all the meetings, documents and anything else someone might need to help their productivity.
