Over 1 billion people will be connected to 5G by 2023

The fastest network is expanding rapidly

According to Ericsson , the well-known telecommunications equipment manufacturing company, 5G is about to reach a very big milestone soon.

Going into details, according to the latest mobility report of the company, by the end of 2022, more than 1 billion people will use 5G networks around the world . Adoption of the new, faster standard is growing rapidly, but it will still take some patience before it manages to overtake 4G. According to Ericsson data, by the end of the year, 4G will in turn exceed 5 billion users. Overall, the company estimates that 4G growth will peak this year, with 5G becoming more widespread from 2023 onwards.

The concern that emerges from her report has to do with prices. As Ericsson points out, most companies worldwide ask consumers to pay more for higher speeds. Its data shows that this is mainly an issue in Western Europe, where it is common for phone plans to be split into different speed tiers.

Of the carriers offering 5G worldwide, 25% charge more for 5G than the more common 4G services. In fact, the average “hat” in price ranges around 40%.
