iPhone 14: Which models are most in demand and which is the weak link?

The first information on the demand for phones

The new iPhone 14 has been presented for a few days and now we have the first information about the demand for the new Apple phones. TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has published information on the pre-orders of the new generation compared to last year’s model.

In more detail, the demand for the iPhone 14 Pro Max exceeded that of last year’s iPhone 13 Pro Max, the iPhone 14 Pro has about the same demand as the iPhone 13 Pro, while the demand for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus have less demand than last year’s corresponding models.

This means that there is a trend towards the more high-end and expensive Apple models, which compensates for any loss from the reduced interest in the simple models, while the Average Selling Price (ASP) also rises. In total, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus now make up 45% of pre-orders. Delving deeper into the demand for the Plus model, we see that it has less demand than last year’s iPhone 13 mini, while it is even less than this year’s iPhone SE. Note here that the reason Apple stopped production of a mini model was the low demand of the iPhone 13 mini, so we can draw our conclusions if the lower demand of the iPhone 14 Plus continues.

If weak demand for the entry-level models continues, Apple is expected to adjust its sales targets in the coming weeks. In China specifically, Pro model pre-orders made up 85% of Apple’s pre-orders, with the Plus making up just 5%.

So far, no model has been released to the market yet. Apple is only accepting pre-orders and the first sales will start on September 16 for the first wave of countries. The Plus model will be available next month.

Without a doubt, the result of the pre-orders of the Pro models proves again that Apple has many loyal customers in a deteriorating economy, but this does not mean that Apple will increase the sales of the Pro models immediately.
