Layoffs and internal reshuffles at Facebook

The “hard times” have arrived…

According to a new report from The Wall Street Journal , Meta , parent company of Facebook , Instagram and WhatsApp , has behind the scenes made significant layoffs and internal reshuffles.

Going into details, the outlet points out that the company does not want to characterize the changes as layoffs, but has quietly removed a significant number of employees, while at the same time preparing for even more significant cuts. At the moment it is not clear how many people have lost their jobs. However, the report notes that Meta has allowed its employees to reapply for new jobs within the company, giving them 30 days to do so. Of course, according to the media report, these moves by Meta result in employees with good reputations and excellent performance ratings being removed quite often.

For the record, in July we informed you that Facebook recorded for the first time in its history reduced revenues, with the metaverse experiment costing the company 2.8 billion dollars.

In fact, the company had warned its employees at the time that difficult times were coming, calling on them to prepare for a leaner second half of 2022. Specifically, Meta’s chief product officer, Chris Cox, had stated:

I must emphasize that we are in a serious period and the headwinds are strong. We need to work well in a slower development environment where teams don’t have to wait for huge influxes of new engineers and bigger budgets.

Finally, it seems that the “hard times” have arrived…
