Emancipation: Will Smith’s new movie is finally coming this year – Watch the first trailer  

The hardest film he has ever made, as the Oscar-winning actor admits

Apple has released the first trailer for the Will Smith – starring Emancipation , giving a first look at the seasonal drama based on a true story and directed by Training Day ‘s Antoine Fuqua .

A revelation of course that goes against reports that wanted the film delayed to 2023 due to his infamous slap on Chris Rock during the 2022 Oscars, which was condemned as an incident of violence, with Will Smith recently publicly asking sorry through his YouTube channel. 

Emancipation will finally be released this December and is a film that is definitely aiming for the Oscars, the question is whether the members of the Academy will vote for it, which with the current data does not seem likely. After all, Smith has been banned from all Academy activities for the next 10 years. However, before the much-hyped Smith-Rock incident, Fuqua’s film was considered one of Apple’s big and strong Oscar contenders, following the huge success of ” CODA “.

The movie synopsis: 

After being flogged nearly to death, a slave named Peter escapes from a plantation in Louisiana, outwitting some cold-blooded hunters, as he heads North, where he joins the Union Army. The film is based on the true story of Gordon. Photographs of his bare back, heavily lashed by an overseer’s whip, were published worldwide in 1863, giving the abolitionist movement evidence of the cruelty of American slavery.

Emancipation will be released in select theaters on December 2nd and will be available worldwide on Apple TV+ on December 9th .
