Journalist and sports commentator John Motson has died at the age of 77, as announced by the BBC, for which he worked for most of his career.

The BBC reports that he died on Thursday 23/02 in his sleep.

But for gamers, he was the legendary voice of EA Sports ‘ FIFA games as he participated in their commentary from 1996 to 2008 , along with Ally McCoist, while also working with Andy Gray, Des Lynam, Mark Lawrenson and Chris Waddle. For FIFA 06 the Motson-McCoist duo had been replaced by Andy Gray and Clyve Tyldesley, although they later returned for FIFA Manager 08 .

Motson has made history in football commentary in a career that began in 1968. In FIFA 19, Motson made a surprise return to game commentary as he voiced a retro match for The Journey mode.

Motson was born in Salford, Manchester. He began his career writing for the sports newspapers Barnet Press and Sheffield Morning Telegraph. In 1968, Motson began working for the BBC, initially as a freelance correspondent for the BBC radio station in Sheffield and later as a full-time journalist.

The last game it broadcast for “Match of the Day” was in 2018 between the English teams Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion.

In recent years he lived in Buckinghamshire (Buckinghamshire) with his wife Anne to whom he was married for more than 45 years.
