BOMBSHELL from DC: Henry Cavill’s return as Superman is cancelled
The new Superman movie will have another protagonist
Just a few days ago we informed you that DC decided to cancel Wonder Woman 3 with Gal Gadot and now the company has reserved another bombshell for its cinematic universe. Ultimately, no, Henry Cavill will not be returning as Superman , despite his recent cameo and public confirmation earlier in October.
Going into details, as it has been known for a few weeks, a new era is coming for DC films , with James Gunn of Guardians of the Galaxy taking over its cinematic universe, in collaboration with producer Peter Safran. In this new universe they are building and which will start from the beginning, it seems that neither Henry Cavill’s Superman, nor Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, fits.
Speaking specifically about the cancellation of Cavill’s Superman movie, James Gunn emphasized that DC has plans for the hero, but initially we will see a younger version of the character , which will be played by an entirely new actor.
Below you can find the statements of both the actor and the new architect of the DC universe.
Henry Cavill’s Instagram message about canceling his return as Superman
I just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and the news is sad. Ultimately, I won’t be coming back as Superman. Since I was told by the studio to announce my return in October, before they were hired, this news is not the easiest, but such is life. The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and everyone involved in this the best of luck.
For those who have been by my side all these years, we can mourn for a while, but then we have to remember….. Superman is still here. Everything he represents still exists, and the examples he gives us still exist too! My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman represents will never pass.
