Facebook: Will it allow five profiles per user?
The new test contradicts the strategy until now
Facebook has been trying to reduce fake profiles on its platform for years, wanting to link each account to a real profile, a real person. A new test of his, however, contradicts his strategy so far. The new test allows each user to have an account with five profiles!
The test was revealed by Bloomberg , arguing that Facebook is thus trying to reduce the ever-decreasing engagement with the platform, especially among young users. A Meta spokesperson later confirmed the test, saying:
To help people customize their experience based on their interests and relationships, we’re testing a way to have more than one profile associated with a Facebook account. But anyone who uses Facebook must continue to follow our rules.
It is not yet clear to whom this test will be made available initially, nor if it will become widely available. But it will certainly change the way users use the platform, since they will be able to maintain different personas or create different pages for different interests. Either way, it puts an end to Facebook’s “real name” policy.
This certainly shows how important it is for Facebook to restore its lost popularity, since as Zuckerberg had stated, the priority for the platform is to become more attractive to young users in order to compete with TikTok.
