AMD RX 7900 XTX – The powerful RDNA 3 generation is coming to “hit” Nvidia!

The next gen models of the company were officially revealed

After the presentation of the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090, AMD takes the baton to present its next gen graphics cards in turn . Faithful to its appointment, therefore, the company announced the first two models of the RDNA 3 architecture , the RX 7900 XTX and 7900 XT.

As with its Ryzen processors, with its upgraded architecture, AMD will make use of chiplet design . This is the first time we’ve seen anything like this in a gaming GPU, with the company pointing out that it’s the “right technology for the right job”. Simply put, the chiplet design allows the different parts of the card’s chip to break down and communicate with each other using a special, lightning-fast interface. Thus, the basic GPU core can be made at 5nm with another technology and the caching memory can be made at 6nm, with more ‘mature’ technology. This of course gives more flexibility to AMD, which has seen huge success with this approach on Ryzen.

Moving on to the RX 7900 XTX and 7900 XT as such, AMD focused heavily on performance per watt , with some pretty big promises. In general, the company seems to have an advantage over Nvidia, since its own flagship has a board power of 350 watts, compared to the RTX 4090’s 450 watts.

But what are AMD’s promises? Compared to its previous generation, the 7900 XTX is 70% faster than the RX 6950 XT in 4K . Compared to the RDNA 2 architecture, the RDNA 3 is 54% better in performance per watt. At the same time, its new flagship can perform with 61 TFLOPs compared to RDNA 2’s 23 TFLOPs.

In terms of gaming, AMD points out that the 7900 XTX is capable of high-performance 4K gaming with ray tracing, offering 62 FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 with 4K and ray tracing , using FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR). Of course, this comparison shows that we are probably talking about a competitor to the RTX 4080, since the RTX 4090 performs better in CD Projekt’s game with DLSS 2 and even more with DLSS 3.

Moving on to the technical specifications, the RX 7900 XTX comes with 24GB, while the 7900 XT will be slightly downgraded with 20GB and fewer CUs. It was even pointed out that a special adapter will not be needed to power the cards , but the familiar 8-pin connectors will be used. In fact, AMD focused on another difference compared to the RTX 4000, since in its new models it made sure to put DisplayPort 2.1 ports , which means higher refresh rates in large resolutions, such as 4K.

In addition to the upgraded hardware, the new generation of AMD will also come with upgraded software. In particular, the company will bring to the fore the new Hypr-RX overclocking technology, which promises a one-click performance increase in early 2023.
