Netflix: This non-English-language film is sweeping – It broke viewing records

The Scandinavian blockbuster broke viewing records

And yet TROLL , the Norwegian Netflix monster movie sweeps the trends of the service and beyond, as it broke a record that even its contributors did not expect.

Just two weeks after its premiere, “Troll” became the service’s new king of non-English language films . With over 128 million hours watched , Troll is the most popular and highest -grossing non-English-language film in Netflix history , knocking Germany’s “Blood Red Sky ” from the top spot .

Already Troll is at the top of the Top 10 of Greece and 93 other countries, showing no sign of stopping. Good reviews on Rotten Tomatoes reaching 90% and word of mouth are making the film increasingly popular.

It is the most successful film of Nordic cinema on Netflix, which pioneers by mixing the genre of “kaiju” like Godzilla and King Kong (the footage from the trailer betrays it), with the tradition and myths of Norse mythology. According to the plot, a giant creature on a mountain in Norway wakes up after thousands of years and starts destroying everything in its path. The Norwegian government, seeing this monster arrive in the capital, Oslo, devises a plan in hopes of stopping what they thought only existed as a myth.

Other top international Netflix productions are ” The Platform ” (108 million hours watched), “All Quiet on the Western Front” (101 million hours watched) and “Black Crab” (94 million hours watched).
