China Blocks Elon Musk’s Starlink

They were afraid after Ukraine

Elon Musk revealed in an interview with the Financial Times that Chinese government officials asked him to freeze access to the Starlink system in the country.

Beijing made clear its disapproval of the recent use of Starlink in Ukraine and sought assurances that it would not sell Starlink to China. – Elon Musk

Musk did not comment on whether he agreed to Beijing’s demand, but the Starlink service map does not show any plans to develop Starlink in China, while neighboring countries are pending regulatory approval.

Starlink can be used to bypass the restrictions of conventional internet providers, thus allowing censorship to be bypassed. One such example is Iran, where recent protests led to a government “shutdown” of the internet, with Musk activating Starlink in the country for free-flowing communications. And China’s history has shown that it does not allow media that it does not control.
