Samsung and LG bring their operating system to TVs of other brands

Tizen OS and webOS everywhere

LG announced first that it will make available the webOS operating system of its televisions to third-party manufacturers.

By welcoming other manufacturers to the webOS TV ecosystem, we’re starting a new path that allows many new TV owners to experience the same great experience and features already available on LG TVs. – Park Hyoung-sei, President of LG Home Entertainment

Samsung soon followed LG’s move and announced that it too will make Tizen OS available to third-party manufacturers. In this way the two tech giants want to give buyers of cheaper smart TVs the opportunity to get in touch with their software, instead of turning to Android TV, Roku or Amazon’s Fire TVs.

Both webOS and Tizen OS offer a choice of Alexa and Google personal assistants in addition to their own, and they also support Apple Airplay.
