Amber Heard has appealed and wants to send Johnny Deep back to court

To reverse the previous result

One of the viral events of 2022 that monopolized the interest of the internet for some time was Johnny Deep and Amber Heard ‘s, which will probably have a sequel!

In case you want a refresher, after several weeks in courtrooms, the final verdict was announced in June, with the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star vindicated for the defamation he accused Amber Heard of. The court ruled in favor of the 58-year-old star, with Depp emerging as the clear winner, as he called ‘all of Amber Heard’s allegations false’.

After considering all the evidence, the 7-member jury found the actress guilty of defamation against her ex-husband. Thus, Heard was ordered to pay damages of 15 million to Depp. For her part, Heard won one of her counterclaims against Depp over his lawyer’s comments to the Daily Mail and was awarded $2 million in damages.

Now, Amber Heard’s legal team has appealed the outcome of the trial . Her team is asking for the jury’s verdict to be overturned or an entirely new trial . Specifically, he argues that the trial was held in the wrong state and also disputes the judge’s decision to exclude some evidence, including notes from psychologists that include allegations of abuse.

Deadline brought to light the relevant legal document, in which Amber’s lawyers emphasize:

This decision, if allowed to stand, will no doubt have an impact on other women who wish to speak out about abuse by powerful men.

Amber’s lawyers focused on Johnny Deep’s previous unsuccessful defamation lawsuit against The Sun newspaper in 2018 for calling him a “wife-beater”. Amber’s team argues that the subsequent, separate case “should never have gone to trial” since “another court had already concluded that Depp abused Heard on multiple occasions.”

For the record, Depp’s team has also appealed some of the results of the high-profile trial, so it remains to be seen whether the former couple will end up back in court again.
