Starfield: Will eventually have over 250,000 lines of dialogue – Skyrim had 60,000

Todd Howard reveals new facts

With roughly two months to go in 2022, Starfield ‘s debut is now closer than ever, and so Bethesda has now released the first video of the new Constellation Questions series. In it, the game’s creator, renowned designer Todd Howard answers various questions from the community about the ambitious RPG.

For example, Howard talks about the traits system, clarifies whether Starfield qualifies as a “hard sci-fi” game, and reveals some interesting information about the dialogue.

Especially regarding the last track, once again we get a taste of the colossal scale of the project. In particular, Howard pointed out that Starfield will eventually have over 250,000 lines of dialogue! By comparison, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim had 60,000 dialogue sentences, while Fallout 4 reached 111,000 . In fact, in September 2021 Bethesda pointed out that the game will have 150,000 lines of dialogue, which means that the entire scale of the project has grown significantly in the last year.

The scale of the game, the amount of content we’re creating, is quite a bit bigger than what we’ve done in the past in terms of quests and things like that. With the dialogues, we just passed 250,000 lines. That’s definitely a lot of dialogue, but we looked at it and the impact is really there. In fact, Starfield includes my favorite persuasion system.

At this point we remind you that Starfield is in development exclusively for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in terms of consoles, as well as for PC. The title is expected to debut in 2023 and will be available from day one on the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. Unfortunately its final release date has not been confirmed yet.
