Oscars 2023: Brendan Fraser moved to accept the first Oscar of his career for The Whale

Although Brendan Fraser has had an illustrious 30-year career in Hollywood, starring in countless films and series, including huge blockbusters, he has never won an Oscar . That has changed now, as part of the 95th Award Ceremony .
Going into details, Fraser managed to win the award for Best Actor for his performance in The Whale . It was the actor’s first Oscar nomination, with Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin), Paul Mescal (Aftersun), Austin Butler (Elvis) and Bill Nighy (Living) rounding out the category.
The win managed to move Fraser, who began his speech on stage by thanking director Darren Aronofsky, saying that he “threw him a creative lifeline”. He then praised his co-star Hong Chau, while almost in tears he closed his speech by thanking his children and his partner.

In case you’re not familiar with the movie, it’s based on Samuel D. Hunter’s award-winning play from 2012. The story centers on a middle-aged man who is dealing with serious obesity issues as he’s been binge eating for years to drown out the guilt that they tortured him, when he left his family for his gay lover. In an attempt to atone, he will attempt to reunite with his daughter, whom he abandoned for many years and is played by Sadie Sink, known as Max from the Stranger Things series.
