Empire of Light: An Ode to Cinema is the first look at Sam Mendes’ new film

Searchlight Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for Empire of Light , the new film from Sam Mendes, Oscar-winning director of ” Skyfall “, ” 1917 ” and ” Road to Perdition “.
Mendes deals with the magic of cinema and the human connection in his new film, reminding in places even the film “ Cinema O Paradisos “, with a frame that is definitely a tribute to the film of Giuseppe Tornatore. It stars fellow Oscar winner Olivia Colman , a cinema worker who forms a relationship with Michael Ward, whose character lives through racism and marginalization in 80s Britain. Colin Firth , also an Oscar winner, also plays with them .

Set in a British seaside town in the early 1980s, Empire of Light tells a powerful and poetic story about the human connection to the magic of cinema, from Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes.
The rest of the film’s cast includes: Tom Brooke, Tanya Moodie, Hannah Onslow, Crystal Clarke and Toby Jones.
The highly Oscar-winning production and the names do not stop at the cast and the director as – some of you may have noticed – the photography is edited by the also awarded by the Academy, Roger Deakins, known for dozens of films such as Blade Runner 2049, Prisoners, Skyfall, where here collaborates once again with Mendes.
Empire of Light will have its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, and will be released in theaters next December.
