iOS 16: The iPhone operating system got a release date

WatchOS 9 is just around the corner

In the context of its Far Out event, in addition to the brand new iPhone 14 , Apple also made some announcements concerning the owners of older models. In particular, we have finally learned the final release date of iOS 16 , which is expected to be available on September 12 .

Of course, the date is perfectly timed for the debut of the new generation iPhone 14, which is expected to hit store shelves on September 16.

In case you don’t know, this big update will bring a lot of changes, such as the brand new lock screen, on which you can display widgets, the renewed Focus that can also connect to the new lock screen, the ability to edit messages in iMessage , the all-new iCloud Shared Photo Library, updates to the Home and Car apps, new options for your Memoji, and more.

Which iPhones will get iOS 16?

iOS 16 will mark the end of updates for several older iPhones and will thus only be supported by the following:

  • iPhone 14
  • iPhone 14 Plus
  • iPhone 14 Pro
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 mini
  • iPhone 13 Pro
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 mini
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone 8
  • iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone SE ( 2nd generation or later)

At this point it is worth mentioning that as early as August the company had announced that iPadOS 16 would be delayed , so even though Apple has traditionally upgraded its smartphones and tablets at the same time, this year iPad owners will have to arm themselves with more patience.

Finally, during the show, which devoted a lot of time to the new Apple Watch models, the company also announced the release date of the new version of the operating system of its smartwatches. So, watchOS 9 is also expected to arrive on September 12 and will be available to all owners of Apple Watch Series 4 or newer models with an iPhone 8 or newer.

This update mainly focuses on changes regarding the fitness tracking features, while there are also new customization options, such as modifying existing watchfaces with other backgrounds.
