Starfield will run in 4K and 30FPS on Xbox Series X
We now have a clear answer
Starfield is expected to debut exclusively on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles, as well as PC on September 6 . So, since we’ve entered the final stretch for its release, Bethesda held a few hours ago the Starfield Direct, a detailed 45-minute presentation that showed everything there is to know about the game.
However, this presentation was missing an important detail that the community was dying to know. How will Starfield finally run on consoles in terms of resolution and framerate? Will it be at 60FPS? Answers and explanations finally came after the Xbox double show, so we now officially know that Starfield will not run at 60FPS , but will be locked to 30FPS on consoles.
Starfield’s resolution and performance on Xbox Series X|S
Starfield will run in 4K resolution at 30 FPS on Xbox Series X.
Starfield will run at 1440p resolution at 30 FPS on the Xbox Series S.
Why won’t Starfield run at 60FPS on consoles?
The game’s director, Todd Howard, spoke in detail about the matter to IGN, stressing that since anything can happen in Bethesda’s games, there needs to be some extra free resources. The company did not want to sacrifice this gameplay experience, since it is the distinguishing difference of its RPGs and thus locked the game at 30FPS on consoles, focusing on offering as stable an experience as possible, always according to the words of the creator .
In more detail, Todd stated:
We lock it at 30FPS because they want the sharpness, we want all that stuff. We don’t want to sacrifice any of that. Fortunately, with this game, we have managed to run nicely. It usually runs at more than 30FPS, sometimes even 60FPS. But on consoles, we have it locked because we prefer stability. We don’t want to sacrifice that experience that makes our games so special. We’re happy with how the game feels, even in the middle of a battle. And it needs that extra leeway because in our games, really, anything can happen.
