This robot dog has built-in ChatGPT and speaks normally! (VINE)
When Boston Dynamics met OpenAI
The impressive advances in artificial intelligence (AI) continue unabated, and now we officially have a robot dog that…talks! Specifically, engineers successfully integrated OpenAI ‘s ChatGPT and Google’s text-to-speech technology into the famous robot dog Spot, developed by Boston Dynamics . This modification allows the robotic dog to communicate verbally, listening to commands and responding.
The dog was introduced by a machine learning engineer named Santiago, who posted a video on Twitter detailing the complex process of integrating the new systems into Spot. This wasn’t as simple as using ChatGPT on your computer, as engineers had to add specific terms to Spot’s dictionary to extract relevant information, along with programming motions for positive and negative responses.
Nevertheless, they succeeded, and Spot now also gained the ability to verbally answer questions. Although the default Google voice used for the bot may need further refinement, Spot’s charming yes and no shares have already won over many users.
Of course, this new functionality is more than just a cute trick, as it also has many practical applications for Spot. According to Santiago, these robotic dogs are often sent on daily missions to collect vast amounts of data, which can be difficult to immediately decipher into useful information. By integrating ChatGPT, the team can ask Spot direct questions related to its pre-programmed commands, and the robotic dog can provide answers in real time.
