Uncertain if there will be a new Call of Duty in 2023 – New statements from Activision  

Which adds fuel to the rumours

At the beginning of the year , a Bloomberg report made the rounds on the internet , which stated that after  20 years, the Call of Duty series will end in 2023 . If the report is indeed verified, it will be the first time since 2004 that an entire year will pass without a new core COD title, since new chapters in the franchise have been released on an annual basis since 2005’s Call of Duty 2.

Now, Activision itself comes to add fuel to the fire. In particular, the company disclosed its financial results for the most recent quarter that has just been completed and in this context also referred to its future plans. In more detail, regarding Call of Duty he emphasized:

Across the Call of Duty ecosystem, teams are able to support the various releases with significant live operations while continuing to develop new premium content planned for 2023 and beyond.

Activision’s statement, while unclear, does reveal that there is new premium content in the works for 2023 . The most likely, therefore, is that some paid DLC expansion pack will arrive , a “habit” of the series from the past with the famous map packs , or possibly some spin-off game.

At this point it is worth mentioning that for a long time there have been rumors that Activision is also preparing an independent Call of Duty Zombies game , which, like Warzone, will make the beloved mode more accessible, without being connected to any specific game. So maybe this will be the Call of Duty of 2023.

Finally, let us remind you that images have already been leaked from Call of Duty 2024, which will be Black Ops 5 from Treyarch. 

For now, fans of the series are waiting for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II which will be released on October 28, 2022, on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC (Battle.net and Steam). Later in the year, the all-new Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 will be released on the same platforms.
