“Green charging” is coming to iPhones

With iOS 16

iOS 16 has been available to iPhone owners since yesterday , but Apple has also revealed something new that will come to the new version later this year. The reason for the ” Clean Energy Charging ” feature, which will essentially bring “green” charging to iPhones.

In practice, the charging of iPhones will be optimized to calculate the time when the power grid uses more renewable energy sources in order to reduce the carbon footprint of iPhones. The new feature will work in addition to Optimized Battery Charging which understands your iPhone’s daily usage patterns and limits charging to 80% until it’s time to start using it again to fully charge it. For example if you go to bed at 12 and wake up at 8, it will charge up to 80% during the night and reach 100% just before you wake up.

The new feature will be available as an update of course first in the US, before reaching the rest of the world.
