Windows 11: The Photos app changes again (PICTURES)
With new look and features
Last year, Microsoft completely revamped the built-in Windows Photos app, refreshing the UI among other things, to match the aesthetics of Windows 11 . As it seems, however, these changes were not enough and now the company intends to change this important application again.
In particular, as revealed through a detailed post on the official Windows blog , the updated Photos application is now available for testing by members of the Windows Insider program, bringing various changes and new features. Probably the most important new addition is the new gallery, which Microsoft says is an easier and more beautiful way to browse, find and manage your photos.
At the same time, the new version also integrates OneDrive, allowing users to immediately see the photos they have in Microsoft’s cloud service, how much available space they have left, as well as to easily and immediately backup their local photos. In addition, multi-window and multi-screen viewing are now supported, while the “Memories” function has also been improved.
Of course, along with the features that come, there is also one that goes. In particular, the Photos application will no longer have the ability to edit videos. Instead, Microsoft will refer users who want to edit their footage to Clipchamp, the pre-installed video editing application that has been in Windows 11 since March.
The upgrade to this essential app will be available for everyone in October, through an update that is expected to bring tabs to File Explorer as well. Finally, it is worth noting that those who for some reason prefer the old Photos application, will be able to find it through the Microsoft Store, under the title “Microsoft Photos Legacy”.
