With the advent of ChatGPT-4 , the newest model of the well-known and powerful AI chatbot, galloping and conquering the world with its incredible capabilities, more and more people are discovering what it can do.
One of them is Morten Just, an iOS and MacOS app developer from Denmark, who had ChatGPT-4 build his envisioned app from scratch. And his AI built it from start to finish, after guiding it step by step and in much less time than normal.
The reason for the 5Movies app , the first AI-powered app for cinephiles and movie lovers in general. The app uses ChatGPT to choose for you every day five movies to watch that match your mood and preferences. It also provides trailers, synopses and tracking information for each of them. You can also discover more about the actors, genres and ratings of the movies and save them to your watchlist for later.
Characteristically, the developer reveals that 5Movies’ code required only 2-5% manual writing , while the rest was all done through commands in ChatGPT. The AI was even able to fix the app’s bugs, with Morten reporting that he simply pasted them into the prompt box and fixed them. As for the visual part of 5Movies, for this he consulted and took advantage of the possibilities of another powerful AI, that of Midjourney which is capable of creating images from commands.
He even uploaded a video of his entire development process, which has gone viral on Twitter with over 1 million views to date. Check it out below:
Just says he was inspired by ChatGPT’s ability to create creative and diverse content based on user input. He says he trained the model on a large dataset of metadata and movie reviews and fine-tuned it to produce relevant and personalized recommendations. He says he also added some filters and restrictions to ensure the quality and diversity of suggestions.
5 Movies is a tangible example of how artificial intelligence can be used to create innovative and engaging apps that respond to specific needs and interests.
