iOS 16.2: We learned when the new iPhone upgrade is expected to be released

While we also know its most important features

It looks like 2022 will bring another major software upgrade for iPhone smartphone owners , iOS 16.2 .

Going into details, trusted Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, who has leaked countless correct information about the current models in the past months, is back to bring details of Apple’s plans to the spotlight. Specifically, speaking in his Power On newsletter , he revealed what we can expect from the American company in the remaining two months of 2022.

In this context, we learned that iOS 16.2 is expected to make its debut in mid-December . Alongside the major upgrade of the iPhone operating system, Apple plans to make iPadOS 16.2 available for its tablets.

The most important new features of iOS 16.2

The first beta of iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2 became available to developers and testers last week, so we already know some of the biggest new features they’re going to add.

Sleep Widget on Lock Screen

iOS 16.2 is expected to add a new Sleep widget, so that users can see statistics about the quality and duration of their sleep, without even having to unlock their phone.

Freeform App

Freeform will arrive with this new upgrade on many of the company’s platforms, such as iPhone, iPad and Mac. It is an application for collaboration with friends and colleagues. In practice, it is a shared board, where you can draw, write, add videos, images, etc.

External monitor support in Stage Manager

With iPadOS 16.2, Stage Manager on iPads with M1 and M2 processors will once again be usable with external displays. It’s a feature that was originally removed from the first version of iPadOS 16, but it’s back again. Using an external display, Stage Manager supports up to eight applications for simultaneous multitasking.

Better support of ProMotion 120Hz

On devices with ProMotion, Apple will finally make SwiftUI animations support a 120Hz refresh rate. Previously, these were locked to 60Hz, making various aspects of the user experience less smooth.

Of course, with the release of the new versions scheduled for December, it is possible that we will see even more new features, which are not present in the first beta.
